New research highlights disability impact of arthritis

Arthritis second most common cause of disability in Australia – People not getting the support they need

New research released for World Arthritis Day highlights the enormous but often silent disability burden of arthritis and highlights the need to recognise that arthritis can be a disability as well as a medical condition. The research also busts the myth that arthritis only affects old people.

Wendy Favorito, Consumer Director of Arthritis Australia, which commissioned the research, said that arthritis is the second most common cause of disability in Australia but because you can’t always see the effects, it can be hard to understand the impact the condition has on people’s lives.
