Philanthropy and major giving

Partner with us to change the future of arthritis

Arthritis affects millions of Australians, including children, working-age adults, and older people alike. It is one of the leading causes of chronic pain and disability in this country, yet research and support for the arthritis community remain significantly underfunded.

Major philanthropic gifts make it possible for us to think bigger.

They allow us to invest in long-term research, scale our support resources, and tackle the systemic challenges that no single donation can solve alone. If you share our vision of a future free from arthritis, we’d love to talk with you about what we could achieve together.

The impact of major giving

A significant gift to Arthritis Australia is more than a donation, it’s an investment in lasting change. Major philanthropic support helps us:

  • Fund world-class research into the causes, treatment and prevention of arthritis
  • Establish multi-year research programs scholarships and fellowships that build Australia’s long-term research capability
  • Expand our free and trusted information support, across the 100s of conditions under this umbrella and to reach the widest audience as possible
  • Drive advocacy that puts arthritis on the agenda at the highest levels of government
  • Provide tailored resources to communities currently underserved, including children with juvenile arthritis, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, and Australians in rural and regional areas

Ways to give

Every philanthropist’s situation is different. We work closely with you to understand your goals, your circumstances, and the causes closest to your heart, then help you give in the way that works best.

Major gifts

A major one-off or multi-year gift can fund a specific research project, support a named program, or provide unrestricted funding where it’s needed most. We work with you to align your gift with the areas of our work you care about most.

Giving through a private ancillary fund (PAF) or public ancillary fund (PuAF)

If you give through a PAF, PuAF, or sub-fund, Arthritis Australia is endorsed as a Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) and can receive distributions from your structured giving vehicle. We’re happy to work with your trustees, financial adviser, or philanthropic services team.

Family foundations and trusts

If you give through a family foundation or charitable trust, we’d welcome the chance to discuss how your foundation’s priorities align with our research, advocacy and support work.

Corporate philanthropy and partnerships

Companies looking to make a meaningful, long-term commitment to the arthritis community can partner with us through major corporate giving, cause-aligned partnerships, or matched workplace giving programs. See more on our corporate partnerships page.

Naming opportunities and named funds

For donors who wish to leave a more visible legacy, we can discuss named research grants, fellowships, or programs that recognise your contribution and create a lasting tribute in your name, or in honour of someone you love.

Gifts in your Will (bequests)

A gift in your Will is one of the most powerful ways to support our work for generations to come. You can find more information on our bequests page [link] or speak with us directly about how your legacy could shape the future of arthritis care in Australia.

Our commitment to you

Major giving is a significant decision, and we treat it with the care it deserves. When you partner with Arthritis Australia, you can expect:
A confidential, no-obligation conversation about your goals and interests
Clear information about how your gift will be used and the impact it will have
Regular, transparent reporting on progress and outcomes where desired
Opportunities to meet our researchers, hear directly from people we support, and see your gift in action
Recognition in the way that suits you best, whether that’s public acknowledgement or complete anonymity

Who we are

Arthritis Australia has been the national voice for people living with arthritis and musculoskeletal conditions for more than 75 years. We are the peak national body for arthritis, representing all conditions, from juvenile arthritis to rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis, and many rare conditions.

With the support of our donors, we fund between $600k – $1 million in research grants each year, run the country’s largest free arthritis online information service, and advocate to Federal government for better outcomes for the millions of Australians affected. We are a registered charity with Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status, and all major gifts are tax-deductible.

Together, we can strive for a future free from the pain and disability of arthritis.

Let's start a conversation

If you’re considering a major gift, establishing a partnership, or exploring how your foundation or family trust could support our work, we’d love to hear from you. Every conversation is confidential, with no obligation.
