Help fund the research that could change lives

Research holds the key to more effective treatments for arthritis and may one day lead to a cure. Yet arthritis and musculoskeletal research still receive only a fraction of the government funding that goes to other major chronic conditions.

By donating to research, you’re helping Australia’s leading scientists and clinicians develop new treatments, improve care, and better understand the conditions that affect millions of Australians.

What your donation supports

Arthritis Australia funds between $600k – $1 million in research grants every year as part of our National Research Program [link to this page]. We also do this with the support of the Australian Rheumatology Association Research Fund, New Zealand Rheumatology Association, the  Australian Rheumatology Association Victoria, Arthritis and Osteoporosis Western Australia, the Arthritis Movement (TAM) and donors like you. Your contribution helps us support:

Innovation Grant

The Triple A Innovation Grant is designed to back the bold ideas — the ones that are too early, too unconventional, or too ambitious to attract traditional funding.

Research Grant

The Joint Impact – Lived Experience Priority Research Grant supporting research that reflects the needs and priorities of people living with arthritis

Scholarships

Scholarships of up to $50,000 for young scientists and medical graduates undertaking studies

Fellowships

Fellowships for post-doctoral researchers and clinicians

We also support the Florence & Cope Chair of Rheumatology at the University of Sydney’s Kolling Institute, helping to build Australia’s long-term research capability. The current Florance and Cope Chair is Professor David Hunter, a rheumatologist clinician-researcher whose primary research focus is clinical and translational research in osteoarthritis. He is ranked as the leading expert in the world on osteoarthritis on expertscape.com, is the section editor for UpToDate osteoarthritis, the co-Editor in Chief for Osteoarthritis and Cartilage, and has over 700 publications in peer-reviewed journals. He leads the osteoarthritis team at the Kolling Institute who are dedicated to improving our understanding of osteoarthritis and the quality of life for those who suffer from this prevalent disabling disease
